Efkan Şeşen

Efkan Sesen was born in Istanbul (Turkey) in 1963.

He spent six years of his youth as a prisoner of the fascist military junta. Throughout his lifetime, he has actively participated in fighting for human rights, democracy and freedom. His character, attitude and spirit of resistance are reflected in his songs and albums. He is a musician and producer siding with the people with his opposition songs.

Efkan Sesen was born in Istanbul (Turkey) in 1963.

He spent six years of his youth as a prisoner of the fascist military junta. Throughout his lifetime, he has actively participated in fighting for human rights, democracy and freedom. His character, attitude and spirit of resistance are reflected in his songs and albums. He is a musician and producer siding with the people with his opposition songs.


Music career:

He was a founding member of Grup Yorum in 1987 and was their soloist for the following four years. In this period, he was arrested a few times as a result of his participation on demonstrations against restraints and prohibitions on art.


He started producing his own music after 1991 and released his own albums. He performed his music in many cities in Anatolia and was invited to many alternative festivals in Europe. He has released 15 albums, two of which consist of his famous whistle, a reliable friend from his prison days. A unique way to express music. These two whistling albums received attention from all over the world.

Since 2016, he has been living in the Netherlands and working with his son, who is a conservatory student. Until very recently, he released his albums under his own company called “Sesen Muziekproductie”. His new album "ID", consisting of his new songs translated into nine languages, met with its listeners on all digital platforms on May 1, 2021. Meanwhile, he is preparing his third whistle album, which he intends to be released in 2022.
